Products that are not friendly with the refrigerator

With the invention of the refrigerator, our life has become much simpler. Now many products, especially perishable ones, can stay fresh and suitable for use for a long time. But sometimes we force the shelves of the refrigerator with food, which is not a place there at all. Some products do not need to be stored at a low temperature at all, while others do not tolerate cold at all.

Bread and pistol
It is believed that at a low temperature bread does not get stale for a long time and does not become covered with mold. This is true, but in the refrigerator conditions, bakery products are stored not only in the cold, but also at high humidity, and this leads to the formation of mold. In addition, flour products very well absorb various odors emitted by other products. while losing your own flavor. Agree, it is not very pleasant to eat a loaf with the smell of fish or onions. So, putting bread or a loaf in the refrigerator only makes sense if you make sandwiches from them.

Chocolate and candy
Any chocolate products will also do quite well without cold storage. At low temperatures, moisture is frozen out of the tiles and sweets, and sucrose crystals protrude to the surface. You must have seen this - white bloom on candy or chocolates. Such a product, of course, is not harmful to health, but does not look very attractive. If you bought chocolate products, and they melted in the heat, you can put them in the cold for a while in order to give a solid shape. After that, they can be safely stored in any other place, for example, in a kitchen cupboard.

Coffee
Some housewives believe that the best place to store coffee or ground coffee is in the refrigerator. Why are they wrong? The fact is that from cold and moisture, coffee quickly loses its aroma, giving it to other products. So, if your goal is not to eliminate unwanted smell in the refrigerator, which coffee usually does well, keep the product in a dry place. If you have a lot of coffee, you can freeze it by first placing it in a vacuum container. However, keep in mind that you should not keep the beans and ground coffee in the freezer for more than a month.

Honey
Honey is a product without a shelf life, which is well stored in a well-closed jar at a temperature of -6 to +20 degrees. Why, then, they occupy the shelves in the refrigerator? In addition, in the cold, honey candies faster; thickens and hardens. The product is best kept in a dry place at a 20-degree temperature.

Tomatoes and cucumbers
Vegetables, which contain a lot of moisture, also have no place in the refrigerator. There they soon begin to rot: there are "soft sides", which gradually darken. Therefore, it is best to keep them at room temperature, and not in the box for vegetables. Tomatoes, moreover, last longer in the dark because they continue to ripen in the light. As for cucumbers, outside the refrigerator they can soften a little, but they won't lose their taste, which is much more important. Therefore, before the specific consumption of food, cucumbers can be put in cold water for a while - then they will quickly regain their shape. By the way, to wash both one, and the second vegetables costs only before cooking.

Onion and garlic
Another pair of products that almost every hostess can easily find on the refrigerator door is onions and garlic. Of course, they are stored longer in a cool place, but they do not like moisture, because of which they begin to rot. No wonder that in the villages they weave onions and garlic in braids and hang them in a dry place. In addition, there is no air circulation in the refrigerator, which further aggravates the situation. If the onion rots in the refrigerator, it gives off an unpleasant smell, which is then extremely difficult to get rid of. Thus, onions and garlic should be kept in nets in a dark place.

Melon and watermelon
This pair of melons with intact peel may well lie for several months in the kitchen cupboard. At the same time, the watermelon and melon will remain as tasty and juicy as if you had just bought them. A cut melon should also not be kept in the refrigerator: it starts to release ethylene gas from lying in the cold for a long time and becomes inedible. As for the watermelon, it can be put in the cut form in a refrigerator wrapped with cling film.

Green
If you bought bunches of parsley, dill or basil - put them in cups of water and leave, for example, on the windowsill in the kitchen. So the greens will last much longer than if it will lie in the refrigerator. Another option for storing greenery is to cut it, put it in packages and freeze it.

Fruits

Almost all fruits should be stored outside the refrigerator. First, many “natives” from the tropics are not used to such “mistreatment” because they grew up in a warm climate. Secondly, under normal conditions, fruits gradually ripen and become even sweeter. So it’s worth keeping them in the fridge only if you need to keep them longer. But remember that some fruits in such conditions may lose their presentation (for example, the peel of bananas darkens). Although apples are not exotic fruits, they are also undesirable to put in the refrigerator, because they produce ethylene, which can shorten the shelf life of nearby products.
